It was a star studded night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards with Alicia Keys hosting. But one thing she made sure to do was to capitalize on that momentum and all those hours she spent on stage during the biggest night in music by releasing a surprise single as soon as it was over, she released the track, Raise a Man, her first solo track in 2 years.

“Tonight was such a musical night I decided to drop a new vibe & have some fun with y’all!!!” she tweeted with an accompanying link to the song.

‘Is it okay to love a man right now?” she asks in the chorus. ‘Somebody made a man, so show me how to raise a man, You can’t be a man if we don’t raise a man,’ she sings towards the end. Reminiscing over an enviable relationship the protagonist is in, likely similar to that of Alicia herself, she sings ‘You love teaches me how to love so deep, it’s so sweet.’ ‘Can’t wait to pass you down to the face that resembles you and me.’

The subject of parenthood is one close to Alicia as she has two boys with her husband, producer Swizz Beatz whose real name is Kasseem Dean. The two have been together since 2010 and have been friends since she was a teenager so we’re sure they’re doing a great job on raising two young men.
