It’s 2021 and one of the biggest comic book characters in history has just come out as bisexual. What a time to be alive. Hold tight! Someone out there is going to be blaming Lil Nas X. The latest installment of Batman: Urban Legends sees Batman’s sidekick Tim Drake aka Robin as coming out of the closet as a bisexual.
If you’re wondering how this revelation happened, Robin saved a man named Bernard Dowd in a street brawl which was followed up with Robin going to pay Dowd a visit at his apartment. Now before you go clicking away in screaming outrage, we promise it’s not what it sounds like. At least not just yet.
Robin can be seen psyching himself up to get to the door to greet Dowd saying, “It’s OK, Tim. You got this.” At his door he stammers, “I’m really glad you got home okay. I was relieved. And I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, about that night. And I — I don’t know what it meant to me. Not yet. But I’d like to figure it out.” Bernard responds, “I was hoping you would. Tim Drake … do you want to go on a date with me?”
“Yeah, I think I want that,” Robin answers, concluding the episode until December. And there we have it… Robin is the next mainstream character in 2021 to get his cherry popped by the gays or the other way around. We’re not quite sure this top/bottom situation yet or whether they’ll be going that deep into things.
But this isn’t the first comic book character coming out. In March, Marvel unveiled their first gay Captain America character, a queer youth advocate named Aaron Fischer in the upcoming “United States of Captain America” comic book miniseries. “Aaron is inspired by heroes of the queer community: activists, leaders, and everyday folks pushing for a better life,” creator Aaron Trujillo told Entertainment Weekly at the announcement. “He stands for the oppressed, and the forgotten,” Trujillo added. “I hope his debut story resonates with readers, and helps inspire the next generation of heroes.”
