BET’s gospel competition show Sunday’s Best has been off the air for a few years but we’re happy to report they’ll be back on the air this summer. Churning out hitmakers and stars like Le’andria Johnson, Joshua Rogers and the last season’s winner Dathan Thigpen who’s been on The Have & The Have Nots, Madea’s Neighbors from Hell and Scary Movie 5, the show was one of a kind and sorely missed while away.
Judges for the show during its last time on the air in 2015 were Kierra Sheard, Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin. This season’s judge’s panel will include the host of Get Up Mornings, Erica Campbell, Grammy nominated artist Jonathan Mcreynolds and none other than Kelly Price. And just like her time on TV One’s R&B Divas, she’s continued to prove that she’s “booked and busy” as she just performed at the Stellar Awards last month, which aired yesterday for Easter Sunday, paying tribute to Aretha Franklin.
Featured alongside Price in the Aretha Franklin tribute was Erica Campbell and Regina Belle. Jonathan Mcreynolds cleaned house pulling in a whopping eight awards for the evening. While impressive, he has a little way to go to catch up to host Kirk Franklin’s 43 Stellar Awards. It’s worth mentioning Mcreynolds is a member of the high IQ society Mensa, so with his talent and brains, we’re sure he’ll figure out how to get there.
And for the Kelly Price fans out there, she regularly appears on the BET series American Soul which tells the story of Don Cornelius and the creation of Soul Train, which ironically is the first award she won as a singer at the Soul Train Awards and the first show that broadcasted her career. The show was also just been picked up for a second season.
Sunday’s Best will be returning on BET Sunday June 30th and internationally beginning Sunday July 7th.
