Caleb Kennedy was this close to getting to the final stage on American Idol and just fumbled the ball with his past coming to haunt him. Now just what could someone have possibly done in their past at 16 that could be so bad? Well dressing as a member of the KKK would do it. He has since posted an apology on Instagram about his decision to leave the show.

“Hey y’all, this is gonna be a bit of a surprise, but I am no longer gonna be on American Idol. There was a video that surfaced on the internet and it displayed actions that were not meant to be taken in that way. I was younger and did not think about the actions, but that’s not an excuse. I wanna say sorry to all my fans and everyone who I have let down. I’ll be taking a little time off social media to better myself, but saying that, I know this has hurt and disappointed a lot of people and made people lose respect for me. I’m so sorry! I pray that I can one day regain your trust in who I am and have your respect! Thank you for supporting me,” he wrote.
His mother Anita Guy has weighed in saying, “I hate this has happened and how Caleb is being portrayed by people online,” Guy said. “This video was taken after Caleb had watched the movie ‘The Strangers: Prey at Night’ and they were imitating those characters. It had nothing to do with the Ku Klux Klan, but I know that’s how it looks. Caleb doesn’t have a racist bone in his body. He loves everyone and has friends of all races.”
Caleb Kennedy don’t let your mommy fight your battles. Admit your mistake, apologize and move on. You don’t need crap excuses like you and your buddy were watching the Strangers. Clearly not the same pic.twitter.com/zQZ865zoQV

I would like to know what his parents were doing to know about this or to have sat and allowed him to do it. What type of household are you running where klan outfits just seem normal? Do parents not monitor their children’s social media? Especially at the age of 12 your child shouldn’t be posting anything you don’t know about. And furthermore, his mother is an idiot. The klan hood and what was in that film were nothing similar. Just take the L and move on.
Keep in mind that if this is from 4 years ago, that was when the Charlottesville attack happened when everyone was on edge about racism. Hopefully this will serve as a teachable moment for him and his mom about racist imagery on the internet.
