Cardi B just became $1.25 million richer, that is if the judgment against blogger Tasha K awarded to her today in court is enforced. You may recall Cardi B sued her back in 2019 for lying about her medical records and background saying she was a gang member, prostitute and had herpes. She even revealed she had been suicidal since the news broke and wasn’t even having sex with her husband Offset over it.
The week long trial found Tasha K libel on 3 different claims with her being ordered to pay $1.25 million in general damage claims and $250,000 in medical claims. That’s likely for the doctor visits where she had to be tested for various STDs. And let’s look at some of the statements Tasha K had made. She said Cardi B “f—ed herself with beer bottles on f—ing stripper stages,” accused her of cheating on her husband and did hard drugs.
This case is likely a turning point in blogging. This is a hefty and strong armed lawsuit for what many consider to be harmless commentary. But it reminds us of what happened to Perez Hilton when meeting Will I Am. He got punched right on camera. It was hidden. Will was fully aware that a camera was there and Perez has been kind ever since. Similar to the revelations of Britney Spears’ abuse became public knowledge. News outlets everywhere started tripping over themselves apologizing realizing the money they made well over a decade ago harrassing her caused irreparable harm long after their industry went down the tubes.
Maybe people will think twice before saying whatever they want about folks on Al Green’s internet now. Tasha K’s since responded to the case on Twitter saying, “My Husband, Attorney’s, & I fought really hard. I want to thank them for their long hours and sleepless nights. Winos it’s only up from here. See y’all in a few days. Back to work.”
