Shocking details from Scandal star Columbus Short’s recent memoir just came out revealing Britney Spears’ family in not that favorable light. Apparently the two dated when he was a backup dancer for her in 2003 and says he was called the N word by one of her parents. About the incident, he said in a recent interview, “I wasn’t shocked when it happened. Look where they’re from … they’re from Louisiana. The way it came out was so effortless, like that’s how they speak. I wasn’t shocked and I wasn’t hurt by it, I was just like, ‘Wow, this is … OK … I know who I am around here.’”

Short continued saying, “[just] because they have black bodyguards doesn’t mean behind closed doors they don’t use that word.” He added he felt she likely dated him just to piss her parents off. “After that I felt like maybe [Britney] was using me to piss them off for some reason. I think she is a really sweet person that was tormented in a position on a high level that I can’t imagine. I liken it to Princess Diana. She was the pop princess. Britney couldn’t go nowhere — her world [was] completely controlled in this bubble. There would be times that she would act out, and I don’t blame her. She was trying to find her way.”

And in light of all the media outlets apologizing to her after the NYTimes documentary on her life, he said “I love Britney to this day… I feel bad for her. I wish the world knew the Britney I knew.” If you’re wondering what her parents had to say about this, her mother absolutely denies it. She said “I want to be very clear. Those terrible words are not remotely in my vocabulary. I would never say that to anyone, much less my daughter. Ever.” And a source close to the dad said, “Jamie was not there, and not involved. In fact, during this time period, Jamie was not involved in Britney’s business at all.”

If we were to take a stab at who the guilty party was, we’d go with the dad because he’s the one who didn’t make a statement at all. I’m pretty sure if I were accused of bigoted behavior, I would wholeheartedly deny it. But given the relationship he has with her these days, including being denied the ability to continue managing her finances as conservator with his attorney saying he saved Britney’s life, he’s probably not really in the mood to address things like this anyway.

Now for the record, 2003 Columbus Short was fine. Imagine how things may have turned out if those two stayed together.
