Atlanta radio legend and comedian Wanda Smith, best known for her time as a writer on Def Comedy Jam, ComicView and being a longstanding radio host recently passed away. Her death was announced by fellow comedian Loni Love who wrote “I am sad to hear about the passing of comedian and radio host Wanda Smith.. She was a staple in the Atlanta area and we came up in comedy together. She was the ultimate entertainer. Rest now Sis. Condolences to The Smith Family.” Smith served as a V-103 radio personality hosting the Frank and Wanda in the Morning show with Frank Ski from 98-2012. She then spent 2014-2018 with Ryan Cameron and went back to working with Ski again afterwards.

She was beloved by fans, especially in the Atlanta area and was respected by her peers. Senior Vice President and Market Manager at V-103, Rick Caffey said “Our hearts are weighing heavier today as we grieve the loss of our beloved Wanda Smith, someone who always made us smile and who was a big part of V-103 for years.” He continued, “Wanda’s impact touched lives beyond making us laugh… Many times she championed efforts behind the scenes to make a difference in the lives of those who were without.” ESPN’s Elle Duncan wrote that “Wanda was exactly the person Atlanta radio fans knew her to be: hilarious, vivacious and entertaining. But I’ll mostly remember how she loved people back. How she’d pull them in [with] a Wanda hug and show compassion and kindness to strangers pouring their heart out [because] it felt natural to share. She truly embraced the responsibility of being a ‘community mom’ and her role in helping people, thru laughter or financial support.”

The thing about Wanda is that nearly her entire career got eclipsed by one viral moment in which she had quite the exchange with Katt Williams where the line that stood out the most is that when she criticized his outfit, he said you could get all the jewelry she had on for $7.99 at Quiktrip with a complimentary car wash. It was so bad that her husband LaMorris Sellers then went out and confronted him with a gun outside the Atlanta Comedy Club. Now that’s some Kevin Hunter ish… something Wendy Williams’ ex husband would do. That’s the type of defending I want. “Oh, you want to publicly embarass me? Go outside in the trunk, bae.” I kid. But he IS a real one for that, though. I just don’t recommend going out doing this yourself, especially how in their instance it ended up being on film. The first key to threatening someone is making sure no cameras are around.

Regarding the cause of death, that has not been revealed yet. The only thing we know about Smith’s health is that in 2017 she had an abscess removed from one of her ovaries and a colon infection in 2015. Now Katt has yet to comment on Wanda’s death as he just eviscerated her and her career yet again recently in his Club Shay Shay interview calling her an inferior comedian. At this point, he probably should just pretend he hasn’t even heard of her passing.
