Cyndi Lauper’s 24 year old rapper son Declyn Lauper, who goes by Dex Lauper was arrested early Thursday morning for sitting behind the wheel of a stolen car. He was double parked in a 2014 Mercedes Benz C350 in New York City at West 140 Street and Broadway. Police ran the tags and found they belonged not only to a different car but one that had been reported stolen for 2 years. He was taken in around 2 am and charged with a felony count of unauthorized use of a vehicle. He’s since been released on a desk appearance ticket according to the Manhattan D.A.’s office.
Dex posted a video of his arrest that’s since been deleted and he’s instead left a message for TMZ saying, “No time for TMZ I just want some privacy.” No word from his mother has been made. As for his decisions, she said in a 2016 interview that she didn’t advise his career. “When you’re a teenager, you’re not looking for advice from your parents — you want to do your own thing. It’s hard for any kid, especially when you have famous parents. So I never talk about anything I ever did in my career. You don’t want to live in anyone’s shadow — you need to make your own shadow,” she said.
As for work he’s done, he appeared in a G-Eazy music video for K I D S. He did voice work for a character in an episode of Bob’s Burgers and has the songs Wavy, Blinds, and Special Vibe under his belt now. He’s gone from calling his mother out for cursing on television in 2018 to riding around in stolen cars. Hopefully this is just a one off and not the start of any type of a trend.
