‘Degrassi’ Actor Jahmil French Dead at 29 + The Cryptic Messages Posted Before Passing

A rather shocking Hollywood death occurred and that was Degrassi: The Next Generation star Jahmil French. At 29 years old he was reported to be dead by his agent Gabrielle Kachman on March 1st. “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of a dear friend and client Jahmil French,” she said in a statement. “He will be remembered by many for his passion for the arts, his commitment to his craft, and his vibrant personality. I ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”

No reason was given for the Canadian star that played Dave Turner on Degrassi: The Next Generation but if you took a look at his Instagram account, it’s possible some form of depression had been concealed. It isn’t normal to have a high profile person die and the cause not be reported by those close to them. Could it have been suicide? Overdose? And if it’s both of these, does the family possibly feel stating such immediately would just be too traumatizing for them?

In recent posts he made before passing, he talked about how he was learning to detach himself in one post. Another he seemed to show some type of resentment over the past with a pic captioned with “It’s never too late to right your wrongs and become a better you.” He quoted the famous monk Thomas Merton talking about how art involves losing yourself. They weren’t particularly the happiest sounding posts. Our condolences go to his family and we’ll be reporting on any updates as they come in.
