Diddy is reportedly filing paperwork to have his name changed. Now as a millennial I have witnessed all the Diddy name changes and watched journalists struggle to keep up all during the early 2000s. Now the name Diddy he’s had about 15 years now and I’ve grown accustomed to this one. Listen, the young kids will never know the struggle of keeping up with this man’s name. As for the name Diddy, it’s simple, distinguished and like all other iconic figures, it’s just one name… like Madonna, Mariah, Whitney, etc. But being unable to sit in one place, he’s seeking to change it and this time legally.

To be clear, he’s keeping the stage name of Diddy, but he wants to change his legal name from Sean John Combs to Sean Love Combs. Now this might not be his stage name but it’s still going to be in the list of name changes we have to remember. And what about his clothing line Sean John? That’s been around for what, 20 years now? Is that going to change, too? Also, the name change stemmed from an announcement he made about coming up with a new name for himself 2 years ago. He made a Twitter video saying, “I decided to change my name again! My new name is LOVE aka Brother Love. #TakeDat.”

He added later that he was kidding saying, “I didn’t change my name. It’s just part of one of my alter egos. To set the record straight—because I have a lot of press to do the next couple of weeks—you can address me by any of my older names but if you still want to call me Love, you can call me Love baby but I was only playing.” But this time he’s filed a petition for the name change in Los Angeles County Superior Court so it’s absolutely going to happen now.

There’s one thing about Diddy, this man has known how to get people to follow what he’s doing long before there was a Twitter and an option to follow celebs on social media. As for the true motivation behind his name change, maybe it’s a midlife crisis, maybe it’s him trying to revive his brand because while Sean John has made him plenty of money and we’re sure it still does, it is a bit dated as far as its peak popularity. But he’s Diddy and he always knows what he’s doing.
