Dolly Parton is on social media singing her heart out to her followers to get their COVID vaccine shot like she did. She said she’s old enough to get it and smart enough. And in her video address to the public she jokingly referred to it as a “dose of her own medicine.” And she earned the right to do that because she made a $1 million donation to Vanderbilt University to help in finding a cure.
“Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine. I’m begging of you please don’t hesitate,” Parton sang encouraging people to get a covid shot. Her Moderna shot was administered by her friend Dr. Naji Abumrad. “I’m so glad that you’re here and that you’re giving the great message,” Abumrad said. Back in November Moderna credited “the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund” in a preliminary report. That is when she appeared on the Today Show saying “I’m just happy that anything I do can help somebody else, and when I donated the money to the COVID fund, I just wanted it to do good.” She went on to say, “Evidently, it is. Let’s just hope we find a cure real soon.”
Well her support is definitely appreciated and although she might look like she’s getting a little preferential treatment getting hers seemingly early, we can let that slide. As she said she did meet the requirements for being able to be vaccinated anyway. She said last month “I don’t want it to look like I’m jumping the line just because I donated money. I’m very funny about that.” As someone who follow how covid treatment works, she’s right about her eligibility. But again, many thanks, Dolly.
