Fetty Wap’s a humble dude which is something pretty rare for someone in the rap game. But he proved as much with DJ Akademiks on his Off the Record podcast this week explaining how he declined having a verse on the remix of his My Way record with Drake on it. He’s already on the hook but when Drake confronted him about also having a verse, he said, “That was Monty’s breakthrough record,” he explained.
“When we first did the record, I asked [Drake], ‘Yo, could you just take my verse off and keep Monty up there and just leave me on the hook?’ “The first and last time I ever spoke to him is when he asked me to get on the song and that was it. I haven’t even seen him in person yet.”
The version Drake was on didn’t appear on his 2015 album which appears to have caused a rift between the two. He says, “That was Monty’s breakthrough record. When we first did the record, I asked [Drake], ‘Yo, could you just take my verse off and keep Monty up there and just leave me on the hook?’ “The first and last time I ever spoke to him is when he asked me to get on the song and that was it. I haven’t even seen him in person yet.”
In the end, the song peaked at Number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015 and regarding why he didn’t add Drake’s version on his album, people record things all the time they choose not to use. In this case, his loyalty to his friend just cost him a relationship with Drake.
In other Fetty news, he was arrested Friday, December 10th in Newark Liberty International Airport for an outstanding warrant. An ankle monitor call had him taken into custody at 1:40 pm a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey told NJ Advance Media. He was released after posting bail. The warrant was for being a public nuisance.
