Rapper Flavor Flav is a national treasure and an icon which is why we need him to stick around as long as possible on this Earth. And he won’t be doing that spending $2,600 a day on drugs for years on end as he’s said he has in the past. Well he’s been making strides towards his health and went on social media to share Oct. 10th for World Mental Health Day that he’s been sober for 4 years now and to help celebrate, he wanted to share the wealth by covering subscriptions for his fans to join the therapy app AI Therapy. The app describes itself as “your personal AI-powered therapist. We can talk via voice or text about anything on your mind.” And he concluded his message with “Help me help you.

These 4 years of sobriety that Flav speaks of began in October 2020 when he was arrested for a dispute at his Vegas home with his girlfriend where he was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery. He pleaded no contest and the charge was dismissed a year later. During an interview with DJ Akademiks, he said “drugs are easy to get on, and they’re hard as hell to get off of.” He added “I guess God wanted me to live. And he knows that I’m a mouthpiece to the world. So, I feel that God let me live through that, so that way, I could teach people about the mistakes that I made. And hopefully, they won’t make them later on in life.”

Flav’s been in and out of rehab since the 90s, but we give him credit for still hanging in there and at least acknowledging the issue and keeping at it. He is a man that is if anything, consistent… like the clock he wears around his neck. It’s his signature. Something else that’s a signature of his is the cologne he wears. He revealed to People Magazine that he’s been wearing the same cologne since the 4th grade… Old Spice. He said, “Everybody should want to smell fresh from [their] underarms all the way down to [their] toes. When I was a kid, my dad used to always keep Old Spice in the cabinet in the bathroom. So that was the cologne that I used to wear when I used to go to school in the fourth grade.”

We watched Flavor Flav on his reality show Flavor of Love in the 2000s and again on Surreal Life. He brings a unique blend of authenticity to the world that’s resonated across generations with his larger than life persona. Nevermind that that persona may have been amped up with drugs but that’s all the more reason that if he tells you to seek therapy so you won’t end up on drugs like him, damnit you listen. And especially if he’s paying for it.
