Jussie Smollett just had a birthday a couple days ago and already he’s having a hell of a first week being 37. A special prosecutor was assigned to his case on his birthday 3 days ago and today footage of him with a rope around his neck following his alleged hate crime has just been released by the Chicago Police. Bodycam footage shows officers walking into Smollett’s apartment where he’s found with rope around his neck that he says was placed there by his attackers. When asked if he wanted to remove it, he did but stated he “just wanted you all to see it.” At that point he realized he was being recorded and asked to have cameras turned off.
Not wanting to be filmed by police is an interesting request considering how he is an advocate against police abuse and one of the most sure fire ways to stop that is the use of body cameras. If anything, we would think he would want to be filmed in the event something goes wrong. If you’ve encountered one hate crime that night, would you want to risk another by the police the same evening? Another clip is below where the Osundairo brothers are seen in ski masks and hoodies in a taxi preparing to engage in the attack.
Smollett had all 16 counts of filing false police reports against him abruptly dropped by the State’s Attorney Kim Foxx in a matter that has raised an extreme level of suspicion leading to a special prosecutor being assigned to the case recently. He also has a federal defamation suit against him and his attorneys by the two Nigerian brothers Olabinjio Osundairo and Abmibola Osundairo for the damage their reputation have faced through all of this. The FBI has reportedly launched a probe into why the charges were dropped and he has a pending federal mail fraud case for allegedly sending himself a powdered substance in the mail.
