Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade are the epitome of their last name, a union. But that was not always the case for the Think Like a Man actress. In a recent interview she said she not only wasn’t faithful to her ex-husband NFL star Chris Howard, but that she felt entitled to do so and didn’t feel bad about it. The two were married from 2001 to 2006 and she spoke about how they had a tit for tat marriage where each time he stepped out, she would do the same. She stated, “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s what you’re doing?’…You’re gonna feel this one.”
She expressed about how with her bringing in all the money she was entitled to do as she pleased. “I felt that that’s what comes, the spoils of riches…Like my dad before me, whoever has the most gets to do whatever the hell they want, is what I thought.” She went on to say the two were in “a stupid relationship that should never have gotten out of the dating phase,” adding “[I was] horny for validation and having certain kinds of guys like me and want me. That made me feel like I was worthy and good and valuable and deserving.”
Things are much different for Union being married to Dwyane Wade. She says she’s encouraged to do what’s necessary to get rid of “dysfunctional” tendencies which is what has kept them together since 2014. She said “We randomly came back around as more healed people and more open to understanding our complicity in some of the challenges that we created for ourselves.” Adding, “Now we’re both free and we are free to choose ourselves and free to choose each other every day, which is a completely different sentiment.”
In reality her role in Think Like a Man really did play out in real life but she realized petty get backs don’t keep a couple together. They at least don’t keep happy ones together, that is.
