Actress and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais‘ 16 year old son Jaid Nilon appears to be picking up the modeling gene from his mother since he just walked in his first fashion show Monday night in LA. The event was RHOBH star Sutton Stracke’s fashion show for her Green Label fashion brand on the rooftop of the Godfrey Hotel. “My son Jaid is one of the models in the show. This is his first runway!” Gracelle told Page Six before the show began. “I’m so excited,” she added. “He just started modeling.” When asked if she was nervous, she said “Yes! Are you kidding? I had him practicing for me today. He’s like, ‘Mom, I’m not gonna look at you. Like, Mom, you gotta be cool.’” And don’t forget he’s a twin. When asked if his brother Jax was interested in modeling as well, she laughed saying “His brother’s like, ‘I’m gonna make fun of him.’ … I was like, ‘You wanna come [tonight]?’ He was like, ‘Absolutely not.’ But that’s brothers! They’re 16.”
Jaid, however has the best coach one could have as a young aspiring model. His mother not only signed to Ford models at 17, likely a lesser known part of her career at this point, but she also actually lived with one of the co-founders of the agency at the time, Eileen Ford. Speaking about her experience modeling to USA Today about her 2022 memoir, ‘Love Me as I Am: Beauvais, Garcelle’ she said, “I made friends and the Ford modeling agency really takes care of their girls. I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m making all this money. Oh my god, this is incredible.'” She got her start when modeling agency founder Irene Marie reached her hand in her car giving her her card suggesting she become a model after being stopped at the stop light behind her and saw her face in the rear view mirror.
Garcelle isn’t hardly a mother trying to shield her son from show business. In an interview with People Magazine this May she said that watching him pursue modeling, “It’s crazy. It’s so crazy to see.” She went on to say “We just did a photo shoot, and he was so cool and calm, and it was wild, you know? But I think it’s going to be good for him. He’s kind of shy, so I think this’ll help him.” She added, “He’s got the chops to do it, so it’ll be interesting,” she said while adding, “I don’t want to be his momager. I want him to figure it out.” And don’t expect her to be chaperoning. She said “I need him to get his license though, so he can drive himself because I’m busy.”
The lady of the hour of the aforementioned fashion show, Sutton Stracke told Page Six about her decision to make an environmentally friendly clothing collection saying “I met this man from Houston who has become my business partner, and he’s in the recycling business. And he said, ‘You know what? You need to be in the sustainability business with fashion.’ And so I learned all about what problems fashion was causing our earth.” In a speech before the fashion show attendees, she said “I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve never done a fashion show. This was not in the plan when I opened my [West Hollywood] store five years ago. It has been a journey for me learning about sustainability and how fashion pollutes our environment. And so these pieces can be in landfills if they weren’t here being recirculated into fashion.” She went on to say that she was proud to be part of the solution and not the problem saying “My 22-year-old daughter, Porter, is in the audience. It was so fun for me to include her to learn about sustainability and also how to not do fast fashion but smart fashion.” Holding back tears, she finished saying “I hope she’s proud of me. It’s just such a joy to share this with you.”
