Content sharing platform OnlyFans has announced that they’re ending pornography on the website. Well videos will be banned. Nude images will still be allowed. No one really sells those anymore so that pretty much wraps up the adult content creators they’ve been hosting. The UK company told Variety magazine that they’re doing this “to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers.”

“OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct,” the company said in a statement. “In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”

“We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines,” the company said. “OnlyFans remains committed to the highest levels of safety and content moderation of any social platform. All creators are verified prior to being able to upload any content to OnlyFans, and all uploaded content is checked by automated systems and human moderators.”

Now don’t think they’re turning their noses up at the adult content creators. Given the number of celebrities bringing in enormous bank and the people who have been buying homes and cars, quitting full time jobs doing this during the pandemic, they’d be a fool to turn that type of money down. Investigators are likely what’s been behind this. Already there are numerous investigations into child pornography and sex trafficking taking place on the site behind their paywall and because you have to pay to see each user’s page, it becomes costly to investigate these things. Each video is supposed to be checked by an actual person but somehow it’s still happening. And banking institutions don’t want to finance that type of activity and so here we are.

There are other alternatives to OnlyFans such as JustForFans but one has to wonder how long will it be before they face the same fate. Will they do a better job of policing their platform? We’ll have to see but all eyes will be on them in the future.

I have to admit. Prior to a recent interview I did, I had a discussion about what is going to happen with the OnlyFans generation. We discussed if this is going to be just a new normalized part of culture, will we be getting used to nudity more in society, but it looks like things are coming to a crushing halt right now. And remember it started years ago with escort sites being shut down, now the main content creator platform is going 1,000 on censorship.
