Harvey Weinstein had court today in New York doing final preparations for a trial on rape and sexual assault allegations when he was met with a small delegation of the 80 woman who have accused of sexual assault over the years outside of the courthouse. Rose McGowan and Rosanna Arquette were among the women outside with signs saying ““Justice for survivors” and “Listen to survivors” just a rock’s throw away from him as he stepped out of a black SUV. The irony is that as he worked on his New York case, he found himself indicted in Los Angeles at the same time. In LA he faces one count of felony count of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by force and sexual battery by restraint in two cases from 2013. And both incidents occurred within a day of each other.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey gave a statement about the disgraced Hollywood mogul saying, “We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit violent crimes against them. I want to commend the victims who have come forward and bravely recounted what happened to them. It is my hope that all victims of sexual violence find strength and healing as they move forward.”
It is alleged that he pushed his way into the hotel room of a woman on February 18th 2013 and sexually assaulting another woman the next evening in Beverly Hills. Recommended bail is $5 million and if convicted he can face 28 years behind bars. And this isn’t the end of his legal woes because there currently are open investigations in London and Dublin. His arraignment date has not been set yet.
