Tekashi 69 is turning into a legend in rap at only 23 with him fighting near 50 years in prison over a gang affiliation that is something movies are made of. In fact, that’s exactly what’s happening now with a Snapchat docuseries being created in his name and 50 Cent getting the rights to one of his own. Even his label’s banking on him getting out soon by offering him a $10 million contract before his sentencing even begins. But not everyone’s as excited for Tekashi. Take New York City’s top radio station Hot 97. They’ve vowed not to play his music when he’s out.
This shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise given that Tekashi was banned from their Summer Jam last year and he looks like he will again this year. He got into a feud with Ebro last year saying that he was all internet hype. Tekashi said he didn’t need radio to make it, that he doesn’t sit down and do the interviews and appearances thy make other artists do. And he’s right. He’s a new breed of artist but I’ll tell you what, the station isn’t stupid. They’ve said they’ll still play something of his if it’s a major hit… and that’s bound to happen. You don’t get the type of daily press that he gets without having a major comeback, even if it’s just people wondering what he’s up to.
