Iggy Azalea has taken the phrase “The show must go on” to a new level. While performing in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil Thursday night, one of her backup dancers collapsed on the floor having a seizure. Iggy called for a medic but the show continued with her finishing her hit single Black Widow while the dancer was having convulsions behind her. When it was all over she made a statement on Instagram to address the situation after going viral appearing to look inconsiderate to what was happening around her.
“Just want to let everyone asking know my dancer is OKAY!”
“The light & heat caused her to have a seizure,” Azalea explained. “She is backstage feeling much better.”
In Iggy’s defense, the situation was more severe than she thought. She said she “thought [the dancer] had just fallen/twisted her ankle,” so she kept going. Iggy acknowledged that it “may sound harsh” but felt she needed to “keep singing until the music stops.” She also said “We are all really shaken up by what happened & just thankful she is okay.”
The statement ended with her saying “I know it’s easy to make memes of someone “passed out” but someone having a seizure isn’t funny, it’s really scary! So I hope my fans do not repost some of the memes i’m seeing about my dancer.”
Now for everyone who’s all worked up about her response to the dancer having a seizure, who remembers the time Michelle Williams fell singing and Beyonce and Kelly kept performing and just looked at her on the floor as if to say “B*tch get up?” That’s the equivalent here as Iggy thought she had simply just fallen. And keep in mind, Iggy’s taken a slow fall from grace which means she can’t afford any botched performances. She isn’t a paramedic so calling for one was the right thing to do as they’re the ones trained to handle such situations… or is that lacking emotional intelligence? I don’t like the idea of excessively picking on someone and with Iggy that often seems to be the case. She went on saying she fees she lives in a world where she can do nothing right and that the last 4 years have really worn her down. That alone should be a sign to lay off of her. These are hard decisions to make in the heat of the moment. She’ll get it next time.
