Megan Thee Stallion is learning some valuable lessons about the industry right now with some veterans and higher ups weighing in on her current label drama. It all started on Sunday when she did an Instagram Live video accusing her label of blocking her from releasing new music after she asked to renegotiate her contract.  Despite 1501 labelhead Carl Crawford denying this and even saying he believes her mother’s  death had something to do with it, she was still granted a temporary restraining order against them from trying to block new music from her being released.

As for the specifics of her contract, Crawford pointed out her 360 deal was a 60/40 split which is far greater than other artists receive. He also said that she should define the word negotiation so that everyone is clear what she’s talking about. He said, “Your definition is, “OK. I’m going to send Suge Knight’s old lawyers to come in, and it’s a stick-up…'” Of course, I’m like, “This isn’t a negotiation. This is a robbery.” They want to make it look like I’m greedy? No, they’re trying to keep me out of everything. She keeps saying, ‘Them n—as over there negotiated my contract.’ Them n—as are sitting right next to her. T. Farris is the one. Her mom did the contract. I’m new to the business. I let this guy T. Farris run my whole business, because I knew absolutely nothing about it. Zero. So he wrote your contract up. I didn’t do it. They want to make a big deal about it. We signed a deal. Honor your contract and let’s just keep doing business how we been doing and everything is fine. Nobody is trying to rob you.”

Jadakiss gave his thoughts on the scenario in on the scenario in a Billboard interview taking her side but wanted her to take some accountability in the matter saying, “I encourage young artists to learn the business. Although I’m for Meg, because I’m always for the artist, on the same Tokyo Drift, you signed that contract. I’m sure he didn’t put his home run bat to her head and make her sign. You don’t get what you ask for, you get what you negotiate in this business. Learn the business as much as you can before you sign anything.”

Rapper Yung Berg, who is now VP of A&R for Atlantic Records weighed in and said he doesn’t think she has a bad deal at all. He said that artists get into deals without thoroughly going through their agreements. He said there’s no such thing as a bad deal when both parties sign a deal. He also said that he has love for both parties, her and Roc Nation and that they’ll work something out. She’s a big star and as he said, they want her to make music. That would be in everyone’s best interest. This is understandably a big story given what both Lil Kim and Lil Wayne went through in not being able to release music for years on end due to their legal issues they had, but hopefully that won’t happen here. No sane party would willingly sabotage an artist at the height of their career in their prime… at least one would hope.
