Jazmine Sullivan gave the first duet Star Spangled Banner Super Bowl performance since Aretha Franklin in 2006 when she performed alongside Aaron Neville. Sullivan did her duet with country singer Eric Church for what will be going down in history for creative renditions. And this is specially true coming from a vocal powerhouse who has just made a much anticipated return with her latest album Heaux Tales.
As for critique of the performance, there are many who are happy to see that Sullivan is being recognized with such a deserving opportunity to show off her gift. Others weren’t exactly sure that her counterpart was as deserving of the slot. He himself even said he never expected to be ask to sing the national anthem so there’s that. At least he’s self-aware. Personally, I enjoyed the arrangement but would have liked someone else singing alongside Sullivan closer to her vocal ability than him.
And no one else! Lol
