While neither party’s teams have responded to media inquiries, no mention of a prenup was made in her divorce petition. Marilyn Chinitz, who is the matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP spoke about their prenup situation saying, “The only time that you see people not having a prenup is when they’ve put most of their assets in trust for their children, and those trusts have been established and they wouldn’t be part of the community [property]” California-based family law attorney, David Glass did say he believes the two are working with a mediator and that she JLo isn’t per se doing things solely on her own or intends to do so.
“Sometimes when people work with a mediator, they hire a neutral third party, either a retired judge or a very experienced attorney who doesn’t represent either of the parties, but it helps them to mediate,” Glass says. “It helps them to figure out how to split everything up. The mediator will prepare the pleadings for them, but they appear pro se like they’re filing for themselves. And so that’s probably why she’s pro se, I don’t think she’s intending to represent herself or figure it all out,”
She’s waived spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck any as well. Mind you he made in upwards of $40 million in 2023 alone but she made sure to dot that i just in case. And considering reports that he didn’t make any effort to fix their marriage, one would only expect that. A source told People Magazine that “she’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage. He hasn’t shown any commitment and interest in making their marriage work. It’s gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself,”
This is all such a disappointing outcome for a couple that put off a 2003 wedding that never happened and now that they’ve rekindled and got back together, only for him to drop the ball and let things die, it’s like the love story everyone wanted to see crashed and burned before our eyes. Back in February 2022, Lopez said they both “had a little bit of fear” about dating in the public eye again but told People Magazine “I feel so lucky and happy and proud to be with him. It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance.”
But JLo’s friends are a little less understanding about the breakup with this being her 4th divorce. An insider told The Daily Mail, “After four failed marriages, her friends feel that she should take a look inside and focus on herself instead of what others want her to be and finally figure out who she is and what she wants from her future.” The source said the breakup played out the way it did where Affleck let JLo sacrifice him in the media so that she wouldn’t look like the villain, but that he was long done with the relationship. She was tired of being embarrassed by him publicly and now the two have stopped speaking to each other altogether. That might make things a little complicated considering they both produced the film Unstoppable and are set to attend the film’s premier together in just two weeks. Hopefully this won’t turn out like that scene in Palm Royale where Kristen Wiig finds out moments before she has to give the speech of her life that her husband got her best friend and nail tech pregnant and has a meltdown in front of everyone.
