Jussie Smollett has been trying to get back into the real world after over half of the year being spent in fighting his case with the city of Chicago over his alleged attack in January. It would be draining for the most prayed up and the strongest of people but nonetheless, he sought out help from the man he did court ordered community service with, Jessie Jackson. Last month he reached out to him requesting to be ministered to. “It’s true Jussie paid us a visit and, yes, I did minister to him,” Jackson confirmed. Jussie requested the visit to see Rev. Jackson before spending some time with people with real challenges and problems,” a source stated. “He is a member of the Rainbow Coalition.” They went on to say “they talked about “Empire” and what Jussie is going to do moving forward because he is still under contract there.” He also attended a Father’s Day brunch at a Saturday morning Rainbow PUSH Coalition forum on June 15th.
Back in March, Jackson stated his organization’s role in helping a lot of high profile individuals saying, “It’s part of what we do, reaching out to people who are in distress, and we have done so in many high-profile cases over the years, from Sammy Davis Jr., when he hugged President Nixon and black folks turned against him, to Bobby Rush, after police tried to kill him in the Black Panthers raid.”
As for what Smollett has been up to, he’s been holed up in New York working on a “new project” and “lining up work” which is good because he’s all but been written off as having a career that was 100% guaranteed to be dead. After all, he’s already moved out of Chicago where Empire is filmed, despite him still being under contract there. It just isn’t sure when or if he will be returning due to the level of distraction he’s caused there. He still remains close to the cast, though.
He also just reappeared on Instagram in a photo with his siblings out in New York City, posted by his sister Jazz Smollett. Included in the photo was his brother Jake Smollett. Taken at Gelso & Grand in Little Italy, the photo was captioned with “Last week in #newyork wandering around #littleitaly with @therochellebrown And my little bros @jussiesmollett and @jakesmollett and stumbled upon this little gem!” The three have remained close throughout Smollett’s trial but it’s a bond they’ve always had. They even have a cookbook together. As for Smollett’s future and what else he’s working on, we’ll keep you all updated as more details arise.
