Jussie Smollett appeared in court today in Chicago in the same courthouse he appeared in last year. His appearance occurred weeks before the 16 charges filed against him for allegedly faking a hate crime were tossed. Since then, a special prosecutor has been appointed and they apparently feel he’s guilty, as they just filed another 6 felony charges against last week for felony disorderly conduct. His lawyer, Tina Glandian, plead Not Guilty on his behalf. “He’s obviously frustrated to be dragged through this process again,” Glandian stated. She mentioned that family of his from California flew in to make sure everything would be okay during his court visit. She called the previous prosecution an “ordeal” and said. And speaking of ordeals, a reporter was knocked over and almost trampled outside of the courtroom as he entered with him calling Smollett’s Security an MF’er from the ground. As for how Smollett was doing afterwards, Glandian said, “He’s strong, he’s resilient, he’ll get through this, but he’s frustrated.” Over the course of the day, Smollett’s attorneys filed a motion in Cook County court stating that trying Smollett for this crime again was a form of illegal double jeopardy. Prosecutors stated that it’s not double jeopardy since he wasn’t prosecuted last year. Remember he has charges dropped. That means that the States Attorney Kim Foxx’s behavior and rationale as to why she so abruptly dropped charges against Smollett, seemingly without sound justification is still on the table. Smollett was released on a $20,000 personal recognizance bond which means he doesn’t have to pay any of that amount and he’s due back in court March 18th.

Also present were the Osundairo brothers, the Nigerian brothers who Smollett accused of attacking him. Last week they said they were praying that he would tell the truth. Their attorney, Gloria Schmidt, apologized for their part in the incident and said they were willing to testify. The key part in this case that is hurting Smollett is all of the messages and communication he’s had with them including texts of him offering them a massage with a “happy ending.” That’s a little hard to fight. And the irony is that Abel Osundairo is working and starring in a new film while we’ve not heard anything from Smollett in the last year.
