Keyshia Cole, who’s currently working on a new album, one that she’s said will be her last just got interrupted with news of her mother, Frankie Lons died. She passed away at her 61st birthday party this past Sunday. The family matriarch who had appeared on a number of reality shows alongside her daughters Keyshia and Neffeteria Pugh.
News of her death was first shared by Cole’s sister Elite Noel who posted to her Instagram Story calling it “the worst pain ever…..to see my mama in a body bag on her birthday! My heart so f-ckin broke.”
According to the TMZ, Cole’s brother Sam stated “Frankie overdosed at her Oakland home Sunday … the same day she was celebrating her born day, when she apparently took drugs while partying — relapsing on what we’re told was a long, hard-fought journey to sobriety.
Sam says he was checking in with Frankie daily, trying to help her stay clean … a well-documented battle that Keyshia and co. had captured and shared publicly in recent years … via television, social media and other channels.
Sam also says the family wants the world to remember Frankie as someone who loved her kids, and who wanted her children to be together … despite their turbulent history.”
As sad as losing one’s mother is, something I myself have experienced, the good part of this story is that even though Keyshia Cole didn’t have a relationship with her mother as a child being given up young, they reconnected later in life. So she’ll always be able to say they were able to make things right.
The unfortunate part of this is March of 2020 Frankie had celebrated being 60 days sober. So far Cole has not commented on her mother’s death. Our hearts and prayers definitely go out to her right now.
