Kim Kardashian spoke to Robin Roberts for ABC News Wednesday night about the status of her and her ex Kanye West saying “You want to take the high road and sometimes it’s hard. I’ve always been a champion of him speaking his truth.” And when your man has gone as far as comparing your mother to a dictator which is actually nowhere near as bad as some of his recent antics, that’s completely understandable.

As it pertains to the couple’s 4 children, she said she’s “really open and honest with them.” She added that the “younger ones don’t really understand” but said the older ones “know what’s going on.”

“You have to just be there for them,” she said. “No matter what, even in this crazy life that we live, you just have to have a really open dialogue with your children. Kanye and I have had conversations. We have to talk daily for the kids so you know, I hate that it had to play out like that. But when it comes to family, I mean, Kanye and I will always be family.” She continued, “At the end of the day, I just want my kids to be happy and healthy, and think the world of their dad,” she added. “And they do.”

Roberts asked about her ex’ actions, “Was it difficult because of how Kanye became so public? How have you been able to navigate that?” She responded You want to take the high road, and sometimes it’s hard. But I think that, at the end of the day, everyone has their own way of communicating.” She continued, “I’ve always been, like, a champion of him speaking his truth and I would always want that.”

One would imagine it has to be hard when your ex is writing music about your new man saying things like, “God saved me from that crash / Just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass.” We wonder if she laughed at that line. It’s kind of a funny line to read in a headline, to be honest.

Earlier this month Kanye’s rep said he was going away for help and wouldn’t be making “any public appearances or inflammatory social media statements.” Now that’s something we’d like to see happen and quite honestly hope these two can co-parent in a healthy manner. They both deserve it. They’ve been through a lot.
