It might have been a chaotic day for hip hop but one majorly positive thing happened and that is that Lil Baby and Gunna’s 2018 hit Drip Too Hard is now certified Diamond. Selling over 10 million copies in the US, the now Diamond song peaked on the Hot 100 at Number 4 becoming Gunna’s top charting song and Lil Baby’s third highest. The record even won a Best Rap/Sung Performance nomination at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The song is 9x platinum but the 1 billion Spotify streams is what made it go Diamond with the industry’s new certification math. Then there’s the music video for the song with its 81 million views to date.

This comes at a bittersweet time as Gunna’s currently behind bars on RICO charges with Young Thug and other YSL members. And the sad part about it is Young Thug was just in the news for Kanye saying Kim needed to get him out but no mention of Gunna. TMZ spoke with Gunna back in July and he said he was in good spirits back then. Hopefully that’s still the case. The announcement of a Diamond record if anything should be able to lift his spirits.

In other Lil Baby news, he has a documentary that just came out documenting his life growing up in the south in the early 2000s to becoming a trap star. Titled Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, Rolling Stone described it as being all about charisma and real compassion. He held a premiere for the film and had gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams there sitting down talking with them about vital issues in the black community. So things are looking up for Lil Baby these days and if things go the way Kanye and a lot of their peers would like, Gunna will be out soon to enjoy the success with him.
