Lizzo is no stranger to receiving criticism and has never held her tongue when addressing those criticisms. That remains true when it comes to a Friday Instagram post when she hit back at the myriad of conflicting praises and criticisms she was receiving calling it all “delusional” Hollywood beauty standards.

“The discourse around bodies is officially tired. The discourse around bodies is tired!” she began. “I have seen comments go from, ‘Oh my gosh, I liked you when you were thick! Why’d you lose weight? To, ‘Oh my gosh, why’d you get a BBL? I liked your body before.’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big. Ew. You need to lose weight – but for your health!’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so little. You need to get ass or titties or something!’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, why did she get this work done? It’s just too much work!’

“Are we okay? Do you see the delusion?” Lizzo continued. “Do we realize that artists are not here to fit into your beauty standards? Artists are here to make art! And this body is art! And I’ma do whatever I want with this body. I wish that comments costed y’all money so we could see how much time we are fucking wasting on the wrong thing. Can we leave that shit back there please?”

Think back to the time when Kanye basically called her an industry plant as a ploy to make America fat on Fox News saying, “When Lizzo loses 10 pounds and announces it, the bots… on Instagram, they attack her for losing weight, because the media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal,” Ye said. ‘When it’s actually unhealthy.” Now if I recall correctly he was speaking to Tucker Carlson and it’s safe to say Tucker’s stupidity probably just rubbed off on him there. In front of a crowd in Toronto, Lizzo responded saying, “I feel like everybody in America got my muthafuckin’ name in their muthafuckin’ mouth for no muthafuckin’ reason. I’m minding my fat Black beautiful business,” and then asked the audience, “Can I stay here? Who can I marry for that dual citizenship?”

And what about that time Aries Spears said she looked like the sh** emoji? To the point of those who were legitimately concerned about her weight, she’s lost a lot of it and deserves credit for that. And regarding those ridiculous Hollywood standards, most of who we see as the example of what to look like aren’t healthy. Didn’t K Michelle just have a show about deadly plastic surgery? And wasn’t she walking around with an IV cart in her 30s all over bad butt injections? The new Macguyver star Lucas Till spoke about the show’s now fired showrunner causing him to be suicidal for criticizing his body so much. It definitely is an endemic thing and kudos to her for choosing to still work on herself, make music and be successful without paying those people any attention.
