Lizzo noticed she had been receiving a certain amount of attention on TikTok and not exactly for the best reason and decided to address it. In an Instagram video she ranted saying, “So, every time there is a big girl on this app, I find that people always put my name in the comments.” But similar to other negative words like b*tch, she’s decided to turn this insult around and said it’s actually compliment.
“And to the people, who be putting my name in the comments, thank you. Because if every time you see a big girl on this app, loving on herself, putting herself out there and being confident, loving her body, you think of me? Or you think she looks like me? B*tch that is a what? Compliment!”
“That means I’m out here doing what I’m suppose to be doing, letting you b*tches know that next time you try to make fun of a woman for her body, or her size, b*tch we’re out here and we don’t give a f*ck, we’re confident, we’re bad b*tches, we’re cover stars, and yeah we get the m*tha*ckin views the likes, and the m*tha*ckin clicks, cuz we it! Sh*t! B*tch! So thanks, and to all the big girls I see you, keep putting my name in the comment h*e.”
And she finished her rant by captioning the video, “I love the bbws of TikTok!!! Big girl, you are beautiful!!!”
There’s a cost to being body positive of any shape for women as they’re criticized for it all so she still gets credit from us for simply being herself and unapologetically so.
One thing not everyone realizes is that she’s from Minneapolis where George Floyd was killed. She discussed it on Instagram Live over the weekend saying, “What they just told me is at this point all the violence, the majority of the violence that’s happening in that city is coming from the KKK and the heavily militarized police. There are people coming from the south, there are white supremacist terrorist groups coming from the south, patrolling the streets, shooting people.”
“I’m tired of putting myself in danger,” she continued with her disgust. “It’s not danger from the protesters, [it’s] danger from the police who don’t value me. Danger of the white supremacist groups who are shooting at people, who are running people over with their cars. How do we not see where the issue is? Why is everyone being so — in the media — political? This isn’t a political issue. The issue is in politics, but it’s not a political issue. It’s so much deeper than politics. It’s in the veins of this country … there is racism running through its veins.”
So in summary, put some respect on Lizzo’s body and her hometown. She can’t be bodyshamed and she’s not going to stand for people coming in taking advantage of her city, either.
