Dababy released his new album Baby on Baby 2 a week ago to low performing numbers, just 16,000 units to be exact, a huge difference from 2020’s BLAME IT ON BABY, being Number 1 in the Billboard 200 with 124,000 album-equivalent units moved. This has lead him to claim he was blackballed in his Instagram Stories saying, “Not bad for da BlackBalled Baby.”

Akademiks started the blackballing discussion saying “His new project after being blackballed by Ebro, Apple Music is scheduled to do less than 20K,” he tweeted on Wednesday (September 28). “Now yall understand my Ebro convo…. DSPs control who is hot and who is not. Fall out of favor with them.. UR DONE.”

Meek Mill then entered the chat adding to the discussion saying, “They blatantly blackballing da baby .. not my business but ima observer,” causing Boosie to follow suit saying, “Ain’t no way my n-gga @DaBabyDaBaby supposed to sell 16k after selling almost 150k his last first week ‼️ “He one of the BIGGEST n this shit ‼️I DONT KNOW WHATS GOING ON BUT SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY GOING ON ‼️”

Ebro doesn’t agree here and wants DaBaby to take some responsibility for his career.

“Funny shit, when artists get hot it is always how they built this themselves and the fans. When shit slows down it is radio, DJs, platforms and the label. #BlameEbro is back for a whole new generation,” he tweeted. “Apple Music is not the only platform. Based on this dummy’s logic, Da Baby should be doing well on the platform HE works for. Is it?”

He added: “Im confused… Im old and irrelevant. No one listens to my shows. But why am I always being brought up by people who are ‘more powerful’ and ‘doing more for the culture’ as the reason things don’t perform? Somebody lying!”

The issue here is a few things. Rapper 50 Cent said DaBaby suffered from a lack of media training where he should have known better than to make the Rolling Loud remarks he did. Then take into account how he double and tripled down on what he said, further aggravating the LGBT community. Showing remorse can go a long way, which he never really did. He brought this on himself. And of course there’s all of the violent events he’s had over the years. If he made an effort to show he understood he was wrong, he would be forgiven. Arrogantly standing on being loud and wrong and taking pride in being blackballed will get you exactly where he is now. I remember people saying he brought in money and that he could get away with what he was doing. Well apparently that proved to not be true. It isn’t too late to reel it back in and save yourself, sir.
