Reality star NeNe Leakes just filed a lawsuit in federal court in Atlanta today claiming that Bravo and the production company behind the Real Housewives of Atlanta, True Entertainment and Truly Original tolerated racist behavior from her former castmate Kim Zolciak-Biermann for years. “NBC, Bravo and True foster a corporate and workplace culture in which racially-insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated — if not, encouraged,” the suit says.
A number of examples were given to which one of her attornies Joe Habachy said, “not a day goes by that NeNe doesn’t wake up with an onslaught of overwhelming emotions as a direct result of these unfortunate and avoidable occurrences.” In 2008 when the cast was planning to attend a barbecue, Zolciak responded with “words to the effect of: ‘I don’t want to sit around with NeNe and eat chicken.’” The suit says the statement “perpetuated an offensive stereotype about African-Americans.” During the fifth season in 2012 when visiting castmate Kandi Burruss’ home, she referred to Burruss’ neighborhood as “ghetto” perpetuating racial stereotypes when discussing whether Burruss needed a swimming pool at her home.
