Nick Cannon shared that he was diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder earlier this month and now says he’s seeking help as a result of it. He told People Magazine while serving Thanksgiving meals at LA’s Mission, “I still don’t understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested for it. I did a bunch of tests.” He added, “I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD. Even as a kid it was dyslexia, but just knowing that I’m just a neurodivergent individual, I kind of always knew.” Cannon now says he’s accepting the diagnosis and seeking help with it. “I feel like there’s so many labels out there, but it’s like, to be able to embrace it and say, ‘Look, I’m healing. I need help. Show me.’ I just embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way,” he says. “To be able to say I’m an example for others, but also be healing during the self-process works too.”
Now anyone who has watched Nick Cannon in recent years could probably guess this diagnosis. He spoke recently about his enormous respect he has for his ex-wife Mariah Carey but said being in her shadow was essentially soul crushing. Then he went out and had another 10 children by 5 more women. And it comes across as him acting out after the years he was known as Mr. Mariah Carey. Breakups and major life events tend to expose or exacerbate mental health issues that people might have and his divorce definitely turned him into another person. And though he might have a successful career, a dozen children as a celebrity or anyone for that matter could be disastrous for one’s finances. So we’re glad to see he’s getting help before he runs himself in the ground physically, mentally and financially.
