Nick Cannon has long been known as one of the hardest working men in showbiz and the youngest chairman of a television network, a title he had a full decade ago with Teen Nick. But he’s adding to his ever expanding resume now by getting his own syndicated talk show. The announcement was made earlier today on the Wendy Williams Show. You may remember he filled in for her not long ago while she took time off to deal with health concerns around her Graves disease diagnosis. There were rumors that he could possibly be replacing her hosting her own show. That clearly didn’t happen and she’s been renewed through 2022, but the whisperers were on to something. Cannon’s teaming with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury and co-producing with his production company Ncredible Entertainment to put the show on.
“After leaving America’s Got Talent, I wanted to focus on developing my own talk show,” Cannon said. “I’ve always dreamed of a platform where I can speak to America and discuss pop culture, as well as the topics on everyone’s minds. When I had the opportunity to guest host at my good friend Wendy Williams’ show this year, I experienced the energy and excitement of a daytime talk show and instantly knew I found my audience.”
Cannon’s resume ranges from radio and television host to comedian, actor, producer, rapper, writer, director, DJ, children’s book author and more. His current gig in hosting The Masked Singer is continuing into its second season tonight. His show Wild ‘N Out is in its 16th season and is embarking on a 30 city arena tour next year with the show. Never complacent with the status quo of his career, he has a resume to be envied.
“We are excited to be able to announce this collaboration with Nick, who has proven himself to be such a dominant creative and entrepreneurial force across film, primetime TV, music, comedy, stage and online platforms,” Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein put in a statement. “The daytime audience got to see that firsthand earlier this year with his stellar performance guest hosting The Wendy Williams Show. Now we can’t wait to see Nick put his own unique stamp on talk and add daytime to his impressive list of accomplishments.”
In regards to the announcement that people really like Nick Cannon and he said that he’s learned a lot from her. But she didn’t make the announcement easy. To make that type of announcement on the Wendy Williams Show, he wasn’t leaving the hot seat without digging deep and she made him play Masked Exes where he was shown images of women with their heads covered and he had to guess the name of who he dated. She hit a home run with Adrian Bailon who he didn’t really want to own up to dating and Nicole Scherzinger who the audience didn’t realize he had even been with. It was all in fun and we’re going to be looking forward to his show next once it airs next year. He said he had the idea of it coming on right after Wendy so it could be two hours of funny. Now that’s an idea we hope comes to fruition.
