Rapper Nicki Minaj just gave birth to her first child with hubby Kenneth Petty Tuesday, Sept 30th in LA as confirmed by People Magazine. The news comes just a day short of the child being born in the same month that she got married to Petty a year ago in October 2019. Now that would have been a coincidence.
Years ago during Minaj’ early days of her career, she said that she wanted to be married and have a child and she’s finally realized both dreams officially coming true now. It’s been a long time coming but she’s made it, although it didn’t come with challenges. Her husband has been the cause of her turning comments off on her Instagram for pics of them both given a lot of the nasty remarks that have been made.
The social media censorship she’s had to participate in occurred because her husband is a registered sex offender from what she’s described as a case with him and his then girlfriend as a teenager where she apparently accused him of rape in a relationship dispute. Many have also said she could have done better to which she said, who would you rather she be with, someone who fit their paper checklist or someone who was there for her before before the fame? At the end of the day, she’s happy and that’s what matters.
In 2019 Minaj tweeted, “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me … Love you for LIFE,” only to continue making music. At this juncture, Minaj has been carrying the female side of the rap industry for some time now so whether she chooses to step back and focus on her family is up to her, but she will be respected for her time one way or another.
As for the new baby, no announcement has been made yet from her camp. There’s nothing on her social media. A good amount of her pregnancy has been a secret with her only announcing in July in an elaborate photoshoot by the iconic David LaChapelle so it’s no surprise that she’s taking her time to announce giving birth. Either way, we’ll be waiting to see how she’s going to let the world know. She already set a pretty high bar with her last photoshoot. Maybe she’ll tap Chi Modu, known for the Biggie and Tupac shots many of us have come to love for her first baby photoshoot. Oh the suspense.
