Just as the Oscar’s buzz around Will Smith’s royal smackdown he delivered to Chris Rock following a buzz cut joke about Jada, (pun intended) has died down, O.J. Simpson has decided to weigh in. He went on Twitter this afternoon and gave a take on the matter that sounded quite familiar. He said that even though Will Smith was wrong, he did understand. If that feels reminiscent, it’s because following the OJ trial in the 90s, Chris Rock said the exact same thing about him following the death of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson.

Rock had told a story about the Ferrari O.J. had bought her that she had another man driving all around town in that was common knowledge and he basically said, “I’m not saying he should have killed her… but I understand.” O.J. didn’t appear to make it a point to repeat that joke so it may have been a coincidence. Still, his response was perfect because he tied in history in the most epic manner with that response.

Jada also finally broke her silence about what happened with a post on Instagram today. “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it,” she said. So no denouncement of violence in that message. Check out her reaction below:
