Billboard just made their list of top producers so far this millenium and at the top of the list is Pharrell and The Neptunes. His Number One singles of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” and Ludacris’ “Money Maker had him top the list for Hip Hop producers but second in the overall producers list behind Max Martin. Others in the overall top 5 were Mike Will Made It, The Dream & Tricky Stewart and Timbaland all in the top 5 list.
Pharrell and his production partner Chad Hugo won the top spot in Hip Hop as Billboard described for their sound as “liquid guitars, clanging percussion, and the most intoxicating synth tones you’ve ever heard — usually kicked off with a four-stab count-off, and often punctuated with a keyboard sound like a dying firework — which played as big a part as anything in Hip Hop taking complete control of popular music in the ’00s.”
