Rapper Playboi Carti currently has a cover story for Highsnobiety where he’s addressing his sexuality. “If the world’s going right. I’m gonna go left. If your cross is straight, then I’m gonna put my shit upside down. If you hate cigarettes, then I’m gonna smoke as many as I can.” He added, “I’m anti-everything. I’m not going out my way to have people like, ‘Oh, what the f**k’s Carti on? Is he gay, or is he he trolling?’ No, bro — I don’t give a f**k. I’m being myself,” he said.

Carti, whose real name is Jordan Carter made it a point to say that he wishes he had chosen to be more of himself much sooner. “I hate that I waited so long to be myself. I wish I came in like this,” he added. “But if you look at my career you see little signs of that shit. Even if I wasn’t wearing all black and all that shit, I always had a glimpse of this. ‘Oh yeah, bro out here, he on some whole other shit’ – it’s always been me. From the moment I came into this game. You know what I’m saying?”

And this isn’t his first time addressing his sexuality. In December, in his new song New Tank, he said, “They thought I was gay,” in a clip that caused him to trend on social media with people wondering what he meant.

There’s only one problem with this. Carti has a child with Iggy Azalea. And she spent a significant amount of time on social media recently talking about how much of an absentee father he’s been and the child isn’t even a year old yet. She said he spent Christmas Day celebrating the release of his album instead of spending it with their child. He also appears to have been ghosting her as well. For a woman who made news for burning her ex Nick Young’s clothes and putting his things out on the street for all to see sure must not only be traumatizes with the realization of his ways as a dad but then hearing he likes men.

Now there is an elephant in the room we’re wondering about. From the moment I set eyes on Playboi Carti, I said he was gay. And no amount of women he was around or getting one of the hottest women in the industry pregnant still wasn’t going to make him straight. Knowing how normal it is for people to have beards (women who will play their role in a relationship with a gay man both knowingly and sometimes uknowingly), personally, I saw it for what it was. And that’s his business, not mine. Then with him being 24, who wants to screw their career up at that age by coming out? Everyone won’t necessarily have the positive reception a Lil Nas X may have.

A few weeks ago I interviewed R&B singer Tyra Bolling who spoke about coming out and the subsequent scrapping of her album and the end of a major lable contract over it. But this occurred about a decade ago. Things were different then. And I’ll tell the story about my own personal witch hunt experiencing similar around the same time. But in the end, we’re happy that he is finding himself. The only thing he really, truly needs to do is not destroy his relationship with his child and their mother Iggy. Neither of them had anything to do with this decision of his and that child deserves a father figure.
