Imagine your son being killed and the family of one of the killers wants to have a “chat” with you outside of court proceedings. Well that is the scenario that deceased rapper Pop Smoke’s mother b is currently facing. Christopher Darden, attorney for 20 year old Corey Walker said, “The Walker family has asked me to contact the victim’s family so that they might speak privately. I hope to reach out to the family soon.”
In response, Smoke’s mother, a NYC public school teacher said, “This is new information to me,” she said. “I’ll have to learn more. I’m working on a lesson plan right now. That is my focus. I really can’t say.”
Understanding her apprehension, Darden stated, “They might need time. I will also understand if (his mom) is not inclined to have that conversation. Everything we have done and said has been done and said while keeping in mind the great respect we have for the victim and the victim’s family.”
The killer is reported to be a 15 year old kid and Darden stands fast with his stance that Walker did not kill Smoke. “My client did not kill anyone,” he said. “Nor did he conspire to commit murder. Corey was 18. He did not kill the victim. He did not enter the home. The agreement amongst the suspects according to the DA’s evidence was that no gun was to be fired. That is in the record.”
Smoke was killed before he was able to release his debut album. Luckily 50 Cent came in on the effort as Executive Producer helping Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon to become one of the best hip hop albums of the year. He has however said he’s unsure if he’ll work on his next posthumous album.
In a 20 minute interview with radio host Kris Kaylin, he said “Steven [Victor] was originally Pop’s manager and the label person he was signed to,” Fif explained. “He spoke to me about the new record. I’m not sure if I’ll participate with that record. I just wanted to make sure that his record did what it was supposed to.”
He went on to add that he believes he’s why the album was successful saying, “My interaction with Pop was that he was looking at me like I could tell him the right way to go and everything would work based on what I was saying,” he said. “Outside of producing the record and having it perform well, I did all the promotion for that record for it to work. They would have put it out and you’d have to find it out of basic interest.”
Smoke’s manager posted last month on Instagram, “I see and hear everything kept it cool tho no worries pay back around the corner Popsmoke new album loading….” Whatever is going on between these two, if Fif’s involvement helped cement his legacy in death as a great one, hopefully they can continue working together and put whatever this is behind them.
