Today’s PopGlitz Song of the Day is one of those songs that when we first heard it, our eyes lit up saying “Who is that?” Hold Up Wait a Minute by New Jersey Grammy nominated singer and Broadway star Antonique Smith is a song with presence. And she clearly meant the words she was singing. Lyrics like “I bought my own red bottoms, you still ain’t bought my ring” is pretty evident what she’s expecting. With the full force of her voice used throughout and over a gospel stomp beat adding to the emotion, the angst and storytelling are here are top-tier.

The song served as her debut single with Lorenz Tate directing and Lance Gross and King Bach starring alongside her. The song was on her EP Love is Everything which fans supported her so much that they donated over $50,000 in 30 days for her to create it. That’s a feat most artists don’t get to share.

Now you may also remember Antonique from Notorious when she played Faith Evans, who the LA Times described her as being “delicious in the role.” Aside from being a great actress, she can effortlessly sing Faith’s music. You can watch her sing some of it below.
