The coronavirus has pushed nearly all of us to our limits. There has been a lot of creativity to come out of this like the Versuz music battles on Instagram, Tory Lanez’ Quarantine Radio and Chance the Rapper’s Teacher Appreciation Week award ceremony. It caused some people to get pregnant like The View’s Meghan McCain and Stassi Schroeder from Vanderpump Rules and it also caused others to re-examine their relationships. Among those people reassessing their lives is Kelly Clarkson. The singer and host of The Kelly Clarkson Show announced she filed for divorce from her husband of almost 7 years, Brandon Blackstock, also her manager.

The actual divorce filing took place June 4th citing irreconcilable differences as the reasoning for the couple’s separation. She’s also requesting joint custody of the two children they have together, River, 5, and Remington, 4.

A source close to the couple gave some insight to Entertainment Tonight on what was going on between the two saying “Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out. They both hoped quarantining away from LA in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead the change in environment was actually detrimental.”

“The constant time together seemed to make an already challenging situation worse,” the source added. Clarkson’s booming career “definitely helped to keep her mind off things, but this recent downtime gave her the time she needed to think about her life and her marriage.” The source added that the two had been “dreading” the divorce process but added that Clarkson “knew she just needed to follow her heart and finally realized divorce was her only option.”

As for assets, a source had this to say about Clarkson’s prenup, “[Kelly] has always been a very organized businesswoman, so her decision to have a prenup just reflects that and protects her earnings,” the source said. “Kelly is very kindhearted, generous and giving, so Brandon will be just fine.”

Divorce is never a fun process but Clarkson’s still young, at 38 with a successful career. She’ll be fine in moving forward and she has her prayers on keeping things peaceful with her soon to be ex in the future. I’m literally raising a black power fist to her while typing this. She might not be black but you get the point.
