Last weekend we reported rapper NLE Choppa being arrested in Broward County for Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure (Unarmed), Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Possession of Cannabis (20 Grams Less/Synth Cann 3 GMs Less) and Possession of Alprazolam (Xanax) along with two of his friends. Supposedly he was trying to get property from a car that presumably was his that had been towed… except he was on the wrong lot.
Well he’s taking the Marion Barry approach here in response and claims he was set up. He went on Twitter to express himself saying, “To begin, when you start changing lives around you and began [sic] to stand for something deep in your purpose you become a target to a certain group of people and also the devil.”
“During this arrest, I was setup, substances were planted on me that I don’t consume/use/own, my name was lied upon, and I was even mistreated in the process.”
He went on to address the media as well saying, that they “covered this story to paint a picture on a new surface I’ve been working so hard to create.” He does however feel he will “walk a free man.” And he signed off asking his followers to “stand firm with me and allow God to do his work.”
While the set up is understandable regarding the drugs, what was he doing on that property exactly? Well, it looks like we’ll be finding out soon and likely from other sources.
This makes a second hit he’s experienced as of late as he’s accused Twitter of censoring him, refusing to let him promote on their website. He said, “Twitter censor me everytime I drop something on my website when people literally got porn all on this app. Anytime I try to help my people they find some way to slow my progression … I simply be liking comments to take time out my day to show the same love back to my fans but sometimes I end up liking a homophobic comment, inappropriate comments, and ETC imma start reading more carefully cause y’all took advantage of me just tapping the heart button I see.”
Choppa just turned 18. Whatever happened here hopefully won’t signal a trend to come because he’s too young to be derailing his career with legal trouble if avoidable.
