There’s some irony about Netflix’ show Selling Sunset as the show’s leads Chrishell Stause and Justin Hartley are now separated. You could say the sun has set on their relationship. And Stause says she found out about her divorce through text from her husband. To be clear, Hartley just turned 43 and apparently isn’t capable of telling his wife to her face that he wants a divorce.
Holding back tears, Stause told her co-star Mary Fitzgerald on camera about the ordeal saying, “I found out because he texted me that we were filed [for divorce].” She then said she thought that surely this was a joke because who does that, right? Well, “45 minutes later the world knew” and she knew then he meant it. They may have only been married 2 years but they were together for 6.
Hartley’s reasoning for what happened was a little different. He claims they had been separated for close to 6 months when he sent the text. This is despite the fact they had been seen out together a number of times between the summer and November when he gave his wife a 45 minute warning before going public with their divorce.
And you can expect this to go about as ugly as possible given the circumstances of the divorce. Stause is asking for spousal support and he doesn’t want to pay. She also wants him to cover her attorney fees and he in turn objects to that as well.
As terrible as this all is, she isn’t the first to learn of her future divorce through text. Katy Perry experienced the same with Russell Brand. Britney Spears did the same to Kevin Federline. And if Stause is lucky, what happened to Britney the following year after doing that to Federline will be Hartley’s fate. Cruel, I know but what better payback than seeing your ex shaving their head in a public meltdown after announcing intent to divorce by text?
If you losing patience wanting to know what happened here, Season 3 of Selling Sunset is out today.
