Simon Cowell had a little deja vu recently by having the opportunity to judge Carrie Underwood again on American Idol, except this time she’s joining the judge’s panel, and as a co-creator of the show, we’re sure she had to have at least a little bit of nervousness in wondering if he approved. As the winner of season 4 of American Idol and 7 Grammy awards, she’s more than qualified to sit on the judge’s panel. And that’s exactly what Simon Cowell said to E! News about the prospect of her replacing Katy Perry as a judge for season 25.

“I think it’s a good choice,” Cowell told E! News’ Will Marfuggi. “Carrie, we go back a long way. I remember her audition like it was yesterday. She was so good, she’s such a sweet person.” Explaining how to be a good reality television judge, he said “You just gotta say how you feel. It’s not that difficult doing this job, I promise you. We all feel the same things and we don’t agree, thank God. Otherwise, life would be boring. And just enjoy it.”

Underwood originally shared she would be joining the show at SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour in Las Vegas. “I feel like I’ve been so blessed to obviously be so rooted in country music, but I’ve been able to be a part of many other genres or music as well.” She added, “I’ve got a song with Papa Roach right now. It’s a lot of fun.” Regarding how she’d respond to contestants, she said “I think I can be honest and constructive, but still kind.” She added, “And I think that’s the whole point, because people are coming in and it’s dreams. You’re part of somebody’s story from that moment on.”

American Idol will be returning to living rooms across America Spring of 2025. Will you be tuning in to watch Carrie Underwood’s return to the show almost 20 years later?
