Song of the Day: ‘Big Timer’ by Rapper IsItQuan

Rapper IsItQuan is from Trey Songz’ hometown of Petersburg, VA that first caught our attention with his freestyle of Keyshia Cole’s Let It Go. His freestyle stood out and we’ve been following his work since. Quan had his start in the city in a group prior to branching out and embracing his solo artistry. Our Song of the Day is his single Big Timer from his 2019 mixtape 12/22. A bragging track with lyrics like “dirty walk, mouth don’t move let the ice talk, IsItGang lit we’ll cite y’all,” it makes for a fun track from one of the city’s best emerging artists.

As for his influences as an artist, he said in an interview that Lil Wayne has always been his favorite rapper. He’s referenced Travis Scott as being the GOAT as it pertains to being an all around star with a wide ranging audience. And that is the type of artist he says he wants to be. He says he likes experimenting with his pop side, has interest in doing reggae, rock, etc. but states the only reason he doesn’t indulge that side as much now is because the market he’s in in Petersburg, people aren’t as interested in that. Our advice to him would be that if that’s what he wants to do, he should give it a try because you never know who’s looking. He could be responsible for introducing the community to a new soud that they might actually like.
