Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs held a back to school giveaway at the Tops grocery store which was the cite of the recent Buffalo, NY mass shooting. Over the course of the day 300 Nike gift cards and 300 Nike backpacks filled with supplies were given out in partnership with the City of Buffalo, NY. It started when Diffs approached Mayor Byron Brown’s office with the idea which was really a good one considering the fact the country has moved on to a number of other mass shootings that have occurred since then.

Diggs told the local CBS affiliate WIVB4 about the event, “I saw my mom struggle … so as far as paying it forward and doing my due diligence, this is what my mom would want me to do anyway.” He added, “I feel like I’m being impactful, and I’m going to always do something in the inner city.”

“It’s one of those things that make you feel more full inside. I like scoring touchdowns. I like making plays – that’s a good feeling as well,” Diggs said. “But this gives you another sense. I’m human, I’m not just a football player, and I’m out here trying to make a difference.”

Given that Buffalo isn’t even his hometown says something about Diggs as well. He’s from Gaithersburg, MD (Shoutout to the DMV) and has plenty of people he could be helping where he’s from but chose to do so where his team is. In fact, he did that as well. This summer he hosted a free youth football camp in DC.

And Diggs isn’t the only one from the team that’s shown attention to the team’s home city. The team as a whole created a Choose Love t-shirt campaign that made over $1 million where 100% of the proceeds went towards the Buffalo 5/14 Survivors Fund and Buffalo Together Community Response Fund.
