T.I. is making the news again for his parenting tactics, only this time it isn’t quite as controversial as before. You may remember the last time he discussed the topic, he talked about having his daughter’s hymen checked.

“…We have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen,” he said on the Ladies Like Us podcast. “Yes I go with her. I go with her. So let me tell you, this one time we go, I think this might have been after her 16th birthday… and this is what we do. Right after the birthday we celebrate, usually like the day after the party, she’s enjoying her gifts, I put a sticky note on the door “Gyno tomorrow 9:30.””So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk. And the doctor is maintaining a high level of professionalism. ‘Well you know sir, in order to share information…’ I say ‘Deyjah they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you wouldn’t want me to know? Okay. See doc, ain’t no problem.’”

Eek. Well this convo took place on his show, the ExpidiTIously podcast where he referred to his father/daughter time as “thot prevention hours.” With his guest 21 Savage on who said he’s overproductive of his daughter, T.I. added that it’s “Cause sons can’t get pregnant.” Savage went on to talk about what type of relationship he’s trying to have with his daughter saying, “I want her to know how to feel real love so she could know how to discern the difference.”

And what does T.I. call the time he spends with his daughter? “Me and Lil Duval call it ‘thot prevention hours.’ You gotta put in them thot prevention hours, keep your daughter off the pole… So, you spending time going to daddy/daughter dances and you’re taking them on trips where it’s just you and her, those are thot prevention hours that you’re putting in.” He continued, “You got to do that! Your a** don’t do that, well her a** gon’ be somewhere in Magic City man…trying to figure it out.”

MadameNoire sums up some of the response to this saying his remarks were both problematic and misogynistic. They also said that it is an outdated notion that women head to the poll due to a lack of a father figure, but I would have to disagree. And there are plenty of people who will tell you otherwise who have both either been on a poll, done porn, etc. I’ve listened to the interviews. K Michelle has given this as an excuse and in the gay world, the porn star Kidd The Icon also cited wanting acceptance from men as a reason he started what he was doing. It doesn’t mean it’s a blanket reason but it’s one. At the same time, there’s nothing bad about wanting to spend time with your daughter as a dad. That if anything should be embraced.
