Watch Missy Elliott’s Long Awaited Groundbreaking MTV VMA Vanguard Award Performance

Missy Elliott performed at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards tonight since she was being awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. And while the VMAs are supposed to showcase the best of the best, she showed everyone else what it means to give a performance. From her flying from the ceiling that was decorated like a flying spaceship like she was a UFO to the new music and medley of past hits with a number of costume changes, at 48 years old, this woman has never missed a beat. Let’s not forget she performed at the 2015 Super Bowl for the half time show where people said she was trying to be Nicki Minaj apparently with no one noticing her age. That’s because her music’s classic.

The same way MJ ushered in a new era of the industry with how he changed music videos into an art form, that’s what Missy did but on a completely different level. It’s been almost 15 years since she released an album and judging from the audience’s reaction, she was sorely missed. She just released a number of tracks this past week if you need even more of a Missy fix. We were just chatting with a DJ who said he suspects this is going to be a Missy week. That’s probably an understatement.
