It’s been about 2.5 months since rapper Young Dolph has been killed and so far a few men have been arrested and charged for murder or accessory for murder, a push for a statewide day of service is currently being pushed for and he has a street renamed for him in Memphis. Still, there’s a lot to do about the city’s violence problems. Young Dolph’s girlfriend Mia Jaye has now gone to the NAACP to do something about it.
“Death is permanent, we can’t take that back, she told Fox 13 Memphis when asked how she’s coping with his death. “That one action has torn out the hearts of many when that should be something that should eat away at your conscience to know that you have literally broken the hearts of mothers, grandmothers, sisters, brothers, children, fiancés, the whole family.”
She lost her brother Jeremey Jerdine to gun violence in 2020 and started the crime prevention organization Black Men Deserve to Grow Old. “Memphis has broken my heart twice,” she told the outlet. “I’m robotic in a sense to where I’m so determined to make sure that in Adolph’s name and his honor that some change is made.”
Memphis NAACP Vice President Van Turner talked about how the rising crime rate has been an issue in the city saying, “It’s crime everywhere you go, you can’t escape it, you can’t run from this problem. We have to invest the dollars in the people like we invest in the buildings and the infrastructure. It does no good to build beautiful buildings to have the city be as beautiful as it can be, but the people are deteriorating.”
The unfortunate part of it all is that Jaye said that Dolph very much believed in the community of Memphis.
“I feel like he would definitely want people to continue to go get the money, go provide for your family, still pick up the pieces, and push through the hurt,” Jaye said.
